Wake up!

The Morning Bird Songs

Photo Credit: Alan Vernon Flickr/Creative Commons

Now that spring has finally shown up after that awfully long winter, the birds are singing again.  Ornithologist don't know for sure why birds sing in the morning but most believe it has something to do with a "morning roll call".  Whatever the reason, it is sweet music to start the day.

Here is some recorded morning bird songs.

The happy couple

This is our resident Red Shouldered Hawk couple.  They spend a lot of time in our backyard and have a nest somewhere well hidden in the woods behind our house.  Spring is in the air and birds are nesting.  It won't be long before we all will see the new additions to the bird world out and about in our backyards.  Do you have a resident birds that nest near you?  Tell us about them in the comments.

Hey you!

Can you help?

Do you have pictures, stories, videos, news stories, or anything else you would like to share about birds?  Click on the link to email me.  Also check back often for upcoming contests and giveaways with items related to birding. Thanks again for your support!

What to do?

Uninvited guest to my feeder.

This is the reason I don't stock my feeder in the spring and summer.  This female Black Bear had been visiting my bird feeder so I decided for the safety of my family to stop feeding the birds when this one is awake.  Do you have stories of uninvited guess to your feeder?

Bird of the Day

Northern Cardinal

Northern Cardinal

On the blog, I will highlight a different bird every weekday.  The first one in the series will be one of the most recognized and popular birds in North America.  The Northern Cardinal is one of my all time favorites.  Its beautiful red feathers especially in the male and its car alarm call make it very easy to identify.  Here are some other fun facts about Cardinals:

-Cardinals are a nickname for two major professional sports teams- St Louis(MLB) and Arizona(NFL).
-Cardinals can live up to 15 years in the wild.
-Cardinals share their name with the Catholic priests who also wear red.

Tell us about your experience with the Cardinal in the comments and what you love about this bird?
